About Bahay na Bato (Kamay na Bato Gallery)

Bahay na Bato, just like its name, is a house that is made entirely from pebbles and stones found on the pebble beach just beside it. It was built as a family rest house and later opened to the public in 2015 as an art gallery called Kamay Na Bato Art Gallery. The house features several wooden and stone sculptures by Bong Kim, a Korean artist.

The gallery is open from 9am to 6pm, but you can also book one of the bungalows on the property on Airbnb if you’re looking for a more unique place to stay. There are four bungalows available, all with their own private bathrooms. The rates start at PHP 3,500 per night.

Behind the house, you’ll find a small garden with a koi pond and a few statues. There’s also a pebble beach where you can relax and enjoy the view of the South China Sea. Unfortunately, swimming is not advisable but the sound of the ocean waves crashing on the stones is a soothing experience in itself.

How to Get There

The Bahay na Bato is located in Luna, La Union. To get there, take a bus to Vigan, Abra, or Laoag then get off at Balaoan, La Union. From there, take a tricycle to the house which is just 10 to 15 minutes away.

You can also drive all the way to Bahay na Bato. The place has a parking lot available.

Fees And Opening Hours

Entrance fee is at PHP 50 per person. The gallery is open from 6am to 8pm daily. But if you want to stay in one of the houses, you need to book one on Airbnb.

Our Experience

We’ve been to Bahay na Bato twice. The first time, we only visited the Kamay na Bato Gallery for a few hours. The second time, we booked Bungalow 2. Walking around the gallery is already an experience on its own. The house is really cool and the sculptures are impressive.

But if you’re looking for a more unique experience, we recommend booking a room. The rooms are cozy, and comfortable. The one we booked had an awesome painting on the ceiling. The walls were made of stones and it even had a sea view!

We got a glimpse of the sunrise and sunset from the beach. In the early morning, you’ll find locals gathering pebbles on the beach and a few friendly dogs playing around.
