24 hours in Mykonos, Greece: What to Do in April

Mykonos is, without a doubt, a Greek heaven and a magical Cycladic paradise that has earned its reputation as a cosmopolitan destination with a vibrant lifestyle and nightlife decades ago.

Beautiful, whitewashed houses and private luxury villas in Mykonos with distinctive sugar-cube shapes, blue-dome chapels sitting atop hills overlooking the magnificence of the Aegean Sea, quaint cobbled streets, delicious cocktails, and endless beach parties are just some of the things that can have you mesmerised, even if you visit the island for just a few, 24, hours!

Indeed, there is a whole lot to do, see, experience, and taste in Mykonos, regardless of when you choose to fly over there. This means that Mykonos is utterly inviting and fascinating even in April, allowing visitors to live the Myconian Dream in the heart of spring!

Of course, it won’t be as vibrant an experience as the one you’d get from a multi-day August or July holiday. Nevertheless, it’ll be just as charming, though with a more chilled and quiet vibe in it!

So, if you are into relaxing adventures away from the summer hordes and the loud music, start packing! Here are some ideas to make your single-day escapade to Mykonos around April a blast!

Explore Mykonos Chora

It is strongly suggested you start your day early so you have plenty of time to see and do as much as possible. You can start with a nice breakfast served at the comfort of your elegant suite or private villa to be fully energised for the exciting day ahead.

At this point, you can choose to stay in a hotel or villa in the island’s capital, Mykonos Town, or one of the many picturesque regions that line the adorable coastline, such as Ornos, which fascinates with its lovely bay, tourist facilities, and idyllic views and seascapes.

Some of the first things most visitors want to do when visiting Mykonos is to stroll the maze-like alleys of Mykonos Chora and admire the luxury boutiques and the many designer shops, as well as the local stores selling handmade products, from sandals and souvenirs to jewellery.

At the same time, you’ll have the chance to mingle with the friendly locals! Don’t be surprised if you get a slice of homemade onion pie or a shot of ouzo or raki! It is quite customary for the islanders in Mykonos to have fun with tourists, which includes sharing treats! Hospitality at its finest, for sure.

Visit the Picture-Perfect Little Venice

With every narrow path leading down to the beachfront, you can’t help but be totally amazed by the breath-taking beauty of the Little Venice area.

Expect little coloured houses with balconies hanging right over the waves, unbelievable views of the shimmering Mediterranean Sea, and a unique sense of peacefulness with the summer crowds missing.

Feel free to enjoy a cup of coffee or a tasty snack, as most of these Venetian-style houses are now turned into adorable cafes and bars!

Check Out the Impressive Windmills

The next stop is the imposing windmills – one of the most iconic landmarks in Greece that’s only a very short walk from Little Venice. Sitting on top of a majestic hill, they offer magical vistas of the Little Venice neighbourhood, the coastline, and the archipelago.

While there, you could see the interior of the 18th-century Geronymos and Bonis windmills, as they are both open to the public and enable you to see how flour used to be produced until the 1960s. The latter mill is also part of the Mykonos Agricultural Museum, which is, too, worth a visit if you can spare an hour or so.

Tip: If your energy levels are still high, we recommend a visit to the absolutely amazing Panagia Paraportiani church – one of the most featured Mykonos landmarks on social media. Besides the captivating panoramas, you’ll also feel spellbound by its natural appeal and 15th-century architecture.

Indulge in a Spa Treatment

Heading back to your Mykonos 5-star hotel and its luxury amenities in the afternoon is an excellent option, as you’ll probably need to unwind a bit before you take a downtown night walk.

Depending on the accommodation facility you have selected, you may even indulge in a spa treatment or massage to relax those muscles and revitalise your body and mind.

Get a Taste of the Mykonos Nightlife

The island is busy nearly throughout the night even in April, with lots of bars and clubs spreading enjoyment and creating memorable experiences. You’ll soon realise that the very place you have explored in the morning feels and looks so differently after sunset!

Wandering through the island’s pathways will most likely take you to places like the Mykonos port or another seafront location, where you can savour appetising wines and mouth-watering seafood and tastes from the local and international cuisine.

Again, your options include from family-run tavernas to fine dining facilities and street food canteens to pamper your taste buds with absolute deliciousness.

Or you could enjoy a flavoursome meal at the luxury restaurant of your hotel, which can be a superb option, especially if you are also provided with exquisite vistas of the star-lit sky and the glistering sea! Then, you can take your entertainment to a bar and choose the level of hype you wish to instil in your night adventures!

Final Thoughts

Mykonos never sleeps and never ceases to amaze, one way or another, be it April, July, or October. A one-day getaway, though too little to give you the full range of excitement you can claim, can fill you up with an unbeatable sense of “I want more”!

And, chances are you’ll be coming back for that more your heart desires!
