Day One: The Highlights of Paris
On your first day in Paris, why not accomplish everything on the list of places to go?
The total time you’ll spend walking between locations is roughly 2 hours and 45 minutes. However, don’t feel obligated to walk everywhere; if at any moment it proves too daunting, then take public transit instead!
That being said, even its more mundane streets boast a beauty that’s worth capturing; so wherever possible, try exploring by foot – who knows what spectacular sights await around the next corner?
Watch the sunrise at the Eiffel Tower
As dawn breaks over this magical city, its monuments become even more majestic and spectacular.
One of the best views of the Eiffel Tower at sunrise is from the Trocadero.
Ask your hotel to get your breakfast to go, or pick some up on the way, and begin your day with a picnic.
Paris seems much calmer at sunrise than any other time of the day, so soak in the moment.
Take in the views of Paris from the Arc de Triomphe
The Arc de Triomphe is one of the most iconic landmarks in Paris, standing tall as a symbol of French military history and triumph.
Located in the center of a busy roundabout at the end of Champs-Élysées, it’s an incredible sight to behold.
Built in 1806 to commemorate those who died fighting for France during the Napoleonic Wars, it stands 50 meters high and 45 meters wide – an impressive feat!
It is free to walk around the base of the Arc and see the tomb of the unknown soldier.
If you would like to climb to the top of the Arc de Triomphe, it will cross approximately 13€ for a skip-the-line ticket.
Stroll along the Champs-Élysées
The Champs-Élysées, located in the heart of Paris, is one of the most famous shopping streets in the world.
It stretches from Place de la Concorde to Place Charles de Gaulle and has attracted visitors and shoppers alike for generations.
From luxury stores such as Louis Vuitton to more affordable shops and restaurants, there is something here to suit every taste and budget.
And if you take a moment away from your shopping spree, you can also enjoy an amazing view of the Arc de Triomphe that lies at its end!
Enjoy lunch Tuileries Garden
On your way from the Arc de Triomphe to the Louvre you will walk through the stunning Tuileries Garden, so why not stop for lunch?
On the way, pop into a bakery and buy a baguette (and a pastry) for lunch. If you feel like being really fancy, grab a bottle of wine too.
Make sure to visit Place de la Concorde, the renowned square loaded with French history.
You may have heard of this spot as it served as a stage for some significant events during the Revolution; here is where King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were beheaded alongside Robespierre.

Note: You may need to make a choice between visiting The Louvre and climbing the Eiffel Tower. If you would rather climb the Eiffel Tower, stop by The Louvre to see the beautiful glass pyramids before heading onto the Bouquinistes.
The Bouquinistes
On your walk along the Seine River to Notre Dame, you will find plenty of little stalls — called Bouquinistes.
The stalls sell used books, paintings (or prints), brick-a-brack, and records.
As you walk by the River, it is quite cool to have a look at each stall to see what they are selling.
Marvel at the Notre Dame
The Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the most beautiful buildings in Paris.
Sadly, you cannot enter Notre Dame due to the 2019 fire. However, it is hoped that the restoration will be completed in 2024.
Even though you cannot enter the Cathedral, it is definitely worth stopping to see the exterior of the Cathedral.
Climb the Eiffel Tower
If you’re hoping to reach the top of the tower, you have two options.
You can either take a lift directly from the ground floor up to the topmost level or start your journey by foot on the second-floor stairway and then board an elevator at its peak.
However, with 600+ stairs making this endeavor achievable requires one in relatively good shape!
Enjoy a few moments of relaxation while shopping and sipping on some champagne at the cafes and shops located on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower.
Then, take in spectacular views as you savor your glass of real bubbly from atop its highest level.
Keep in mind that enhanced security protocols are now standard – so be sure to have your bags checked and go through body scanning prior to entry!
Note: If you spent time exploring The Louvre you may not have time to climb the Eiffel Tower, or you may choose to skip the sunset cruise so you can spend time at the Eiffel Tower.

Cruising through Paris is an experience like no other, and there are several types of cruises available for your enjoyment.
Depending on what type you choose—which ranges from 10€ to a three-course dinner meal lasting 2.50 to 3 hours—you can enjoy drinks, dinner, or just the simple boat trip along with a running commentary in multiple languages that outlines the history of Paris as it passes by.
For wintertime travelers, don’t forget to bundle up if you plan on sitting outside; after all, nothing beats taking in such beautiful scenery while keeping warm at the same time!

Le Marais
What initially made me fall in love with Le Marais is that its streets are unique compared to other areas of Paris.
Unlike most parts of the city, which were reconstructed during the 1800s, this neighborhood was left unchanged.
It’s an ideal spot for leisurely strolling and exploring bistros, cafes, shops – you name it!
You could easily lose a few hours wandering around here or stopping by a café for some people-watching and local produce shopping.
Not only is the stunning Hotel de Ville, Paris City Hall located here, but also a carousel to take you right back to your childhood! In fact, it’s one of the best arrondissement to stay in Paris!
There’s much beauty inside and out of this building that can be explored. You’re never too old for a carousel ride, so hop on while you make unforgettable memories with family or friends!
Montmartre
An idyllic experience awaits you in Montmartre! From the hillside, enchanting views of Paris are revealed and available both during sunrise and sunset.
We were fortunate enough to be able to witness this mesmerizing sight from our hotel room, yet we highly recommend that you stay in Montmartre as well.
One of the most advantageous points for viewing is located by Sacré-Coeur where one can take pleasure in scenic sights miles away, including a stunning view of the Eiffel Tower.
Don’t miss out on this captivating opportunity!
Montmartre is a bustling hub, with its cobblestone streets, cafes, and Artist Square at its center.
Here, local creatives come together to create beautiful artwork before selling it on the square – an incredible sight that one must witness!
I highly recommend stopping by a café on the outskirts of Montmartre’s main attraction in order to observe these talented individuals while they work; though be warned – this area is usually inundated with tourists due to its immense popularity!
