The so-called “White Witch,” Annie Palmer, was the owner. She is suspected of killing several husbands and lovers and is said to have been a master of voodoo and witchcraft.
Later, one of the slaves on the estate, Takoo, killed her. It’s said that she is still haunting the house today.

Dunns River Falls

The history of how the sanctuary first opened its doors is a humbling tale, much like your time spent in this place will be. The previous owner of the property was a passionate environmentalist, and he was known to wander across the surrounding hills and feed the birds. After some time, they became accustomed to her and began following her back to her house. Although she is no longer with us, the Rocklands Bird Sanctuary continues to honor her memory.
Sam Sharpe Square
Visit this charming small area in the center of Montego Bay’s city to get a feel for what life was like in Jamaica in the 1800s. It was given that name in honor of Jamaican National Hero and anti-slavery activist Sam Sharpe.
On Christmas Day in 1831, a large-scale uprising that Sharpe was leading got underway. The city’s slaves defied their masters and refused to work. This was a momentous act of defiance, which resulted in the Great House on the Kensington Estate being set on fire and, at the same time, initiated the slave uprising in Jamaica.
The monument in the middle of the square explores his hardships as a humanitarian activist. Aside from its history, the neighborhood is also a busy one with numerous sellers. Don’t forget to stop by The Cage and the Montego Bay Museum while you’re there.
Ras Natango Gallery and Garden
