Ahh the many joys of traveling. Whether you travel for work, pleasure or both – it’s an opportunity to experience things you wouldn’t otherwise experience. Dressing for travel can be tricky, as I’m sure you’re well aware.

While we all have our own style and travel preferences, one thing I think we can ALL agree on is that we want to be comfortable while traveling. There’s nothing more frustrating than being dressed uncomfortably when you’re traveling (no matter the form of transportation).

Since we all have the common goal of comfort, I thought it would be helpful to give you a few comfortable travel outfit ideas.

This way, the next time you’re getting ready to go on a trip you have a few outfit ideas to lean on so you can be comfortable AND stylish.

The Elevated Sweatpants

Sweatpants are a must when traveling. They’re comfortable and SO easy to wear. Of course, I don’t have to tell you that – we all love sweatpants.

However, when you’re traveling I recommend going for an elevated sweatpants outfit. The good news is it’s pretty easy to do now that athleisure is such a big trend.

First things first, you don’t want to grab just any pair of sweatpants – opt for a nice pair of sweatpants, something like a cute jogger is perfect. Leave your college sweatpants for the couch. I’m all about keeping travel looks simple so pair your jogger sweats with a white t-shirt or tank top.

Complete the look with a cute pair of sneakers and a long cardigan. I love a long cardigan because it creates that elevated look so well, it makes the outfit feel completed. Another reason I recommend a long cardigan as a layering piece is because of function!

It adds a bit of warmth and it’s easy to take off if you get too hot. Throw on a pair of hoop earrings and you’re all set.

Edgy in Leggings

If you’re more of an edgy kind of woman,  this travel outfit may be more your speed. One of my favorite style hacks to looking stylish, with minimal effort, is by styling a monochromatic outfit. Seriously!

Wearing one color throughout your entire look is a super simple way to look put together instantly. This is a great hack to use when traveling, especially because comfort is key.

Leggings, as you know well, are another great go-to for traveling. They’re so comfortable, they’re a lot like sweatpants! The great thing about leggings is their versatility. Style leggings for the perfect travel outfit by creating a monochromatic outfit around them.

Have a pair of black leggings? Great! Style them with a black t-shirt or tank, black leather jacket and some cute sneakers. Throwing on the leather jacket adds an edgy element to the outfit and gives leggings a bit more style.

The Comfortable One Piece

Ok ladies, this may be the EASIEST travel outfit yet. Enter: the jumpsuit. Yes, a jumpsuit! When you think about a jumpsuit, your mind may automatically go to thinking about a dressy type of jumpsuit. But there’s a whole jumpsuit world out there – casual, comfortable options included!

The reason jumpsuits are so great for traveling is because they’re ONE piece, so there’s no need to worry about matching multiple garments together to create an outfit. Something that’s pretty great while traveling! Plus, jumpsuits are pretty comfortable to wear! No tucking, fussing, etc.

All you need to do is throw on a pair of sandals or flats with your favorite jumpsuit and you’ve got a pretty great comfortable travel outfit!

Jeans Will Travel

Ok, so I’ve given you a few really comfortable travel outfit ideas so far but for the times when you want (or need) to wear something a bit more ‘dressed’ while traveling jeans are an obvious choice.

Just make sure the jeans you wear are ACTUALLY comfortable, no one wants to sit on a plane with jeans they can’t breathe sitting down in.

To keep it easy, and still comfortable, for you in your jeans travel outfit I suggest pairing them with a simple t-shirt or shirt. You can pick something with a simple pattern if you’d like, otherwise solids will do.

I typically choose the shirt style and sleeve length depending upon my destination. You’re not going to stop there, though! To create a complete, comfortable look top the outfit with your favorite versatile jacket or blazer.

Something like a cropped peacoat or even a moto jacket is perfect. Throw some cute flats on and there you go!

Cozy Dress for Travel

I didn’t forget about all the dress lovers! Dresses, much like jumpsuits, are easy to wear for traveling because of the one piece element. If you want to travel in a dress, I suggest opting for something that isn’t super form fitting to give you more of a cozy feeling. Sweatshirt dresses and t-shirt dresses are ideal options because of their ease and comfort.

Style these simple dresses up with a fun pair of sneakers, this will help to keep your feet warm if you’re traveling on a plane. I always love to add a layering piece to a dress while traveling, because you really never know what the temperature(s) will be throughout your travels. Throw on a denim jacket, leather jacket or even a lightweight cardigan to complete the outfit and add an easy layering piece.

Style Hacks for Traveling

Packing comes with a variety of stress and question. You want to be prepared but you also don’t want to take up too much space in your suitcases.

One of my favorite packing hacks when traveling is to WEAR the accessories I plan to wear throughout my trip. Wearing them WHILE traveling frees up space in the suitcase and this way you don’t have to worry about anything getting tangled up throughout the trip.

Another tip I have that I actually mentioned above a couple of times, is to wear a layering piece when you travel. Choose something that goes with all the outfits you have planned.

Again, it frees up some space in your suitcase and helps keep you prepared for fluctuating temps.
